Not everything you shoot needs to be a drill.
Drills are generally used to practice or develop a skill. Assessments and standards are used to measure performance.
The goal here is to provide repeatable shooting assessments that give you useful information about your current abilities. Shoot them, record your results, identify weaknesses, train those weaknesses, and come back later to see what changed.
Some assessments use a defined performance standard. Others simply give you a consistent way to measure yourself over time.
Casual Firearms Standard
A multi-skill handgun assessment built around accuracy, speed, transitions, gun handling, and accountability.
The Casual Firearms Standard uses multiple target sizes and shooting demands to create a repeatable assessment of overall handgun performance.
It can be shot using different scoring methods depending on what you’re trying to measure, including a performance-focused Hit Factor format.

The 7 Ring
A focused assessment of your draw and first-shot performance.
The 7 Ring is designed to examine more than the final time on the timer. It provides a repeatable way to evaluate the complete draw process, from reacting to the start signal through presenting the pistol and delivering an accountable first shot.

Why Measure Performance?
You don’t need to turn every range session into a competition with yourself.
But without occasionally measuring performance, it can be difficult to know whether your training is actually producing results.
A repeatable assessment gives you a snapshot of where you are today. Come back to it later under the same conditions, and you have something meaningful to compare against.
Measure. Train. Reassess.
